8 Foods To Eat To Bring On That Summer Glow

Posted by Stefanie Emery on

The temperature is slowly increasing, and the sunshine is steadily making an appearance back into the British skies. Although the boost in Vitamin D may help in achieving your outer glow, it is important that you are getting the right nutrients to sustain that glow inside and out.

Through eating a varied and balanced plant based diet, you are nourishing your mind, body, and soul, enabling you to glow like never before. Skin health is interlinked to the wellbeing of our gut microbiome, as well as many aspects of our mental and physical health, therefore becoming more mindful of our diet is vital when looking to achieve a healthy mind, a boost in energy, and that desired natural glow.

The gut thrives off of the consumption of a variety of high-fibre foods that are sourced from delicious fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. As they say, eat the rainbow.

Here are a few of our favourite skin-loving foods to bring on that summer glow.

P.S. We’ve saved the best for last.

1. Berries

Berries are a rich source of micronutrients and antioxidants. This nutrient dense fruit can support the production of collagen; they are also a deliciously refreshing snack in the warmer weather.

2. Oats

A breakfast staple that your gut will love you for.

Oats are rich in dietary fibre as well as resistance starch. These are nutrients that will help in the flourishing of your gut microflora, whilst also keeping you fuller for longer.

3. Avocado

A fantastic fruit, with unique properties.

Avocados are a fruit that are highest in fat—healthy fat that is! Avocados are abundant in skin-loving nutrients such as omega-9, vitamin C, vitamin E, and plant sterols.

4. Hemp Seeds

Not a fan of nuts? This creamy substitute may be the way to go.

Hemp seeds are a rich source of healthy fats, with an interestedly perfect ratio of omegas. Hemp seeds have a 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, which not only promote skin health, but a range of other health issues that you may be suffering with.

5. Coconut Yoghurt

Fermented, full fat, and fabulous. Coconut yoghurt is creamy, naturally sweet, and oh-so good for your skin. Coconut Yoghurt is rich in skin-loving healthy fats as well as probiotics that are known to feed and grow your gut microflora.

6. Cacao

Cacao is a mineral powerhouse. Rich in minerals such as magnesium, zinc, and calcium, this deliciously rich powder can help not only boost your skin health, but also provide protection to the skin.

7. Tempeh

Tofu’s beloved sister.

If you’re tired of tofu, tempeh is a whole new experience. Not only is it nuttier in flavour and more exciting in texture, it also provides an abundance of probiotics that can aid digestion, whilst boosting skin health and overall health. This also serves as a complete source of protein, providing all of the essential amino acids.

8. Algae

All hail algae—the underrated skin care ‘superfood’.

Algae is absolutely loaded with antioxidants as well as unique ingredients such as the skin-cleansing chlorophyll. Algae has been proven to improve moisture in the skin by up to 128%, whilst also displaying powerful anti-aging properties.

We’re all for algae. We particularly love chlorella, spirulina, and dulce flakes!

Overall…

These foods are nutritionally dense, and filled with everything your skin needs in order to get that glow. However, it is important that your overall diet is vibrant and varied, with a balance of all macronutrients.
